How Do You Know?

Grandmother,how did you become so wise in the ways of life,who told you these things you know?
Come child sit here at my feet and I will tell you as my grandmother told me,of the long and long ago.
Grandmother how do you know when to plant the corn so that it will grow strong and tall?
Child,when first the two legs came into the world of light,it was Creator who told all.
Then we were like you,unknowing and wide eyed,Creator said to us,the four leg peoples if you will listen will teach you all you need to know.
Know this children,everything has a spirit just as you and me,a reason to be,to learn you must first show respect for their ways.
Mother Earth has many faces,all things follow the Circle,watch,listen and you will learn.
And so we know with the first soft rains bring spring,the grasses begin to turn green,Mothers flesh is soft and giving,then it is time to plant the corn.
Grandmother,how do you know the animals will come and give their lives for us to use to help our children grow,give us food and clothes?
Child,Creator spoke to all,as long as we give respect to our Elders the four legs,say prayers of thanks for their giving,they will come to help their brothers to live.
Grandmother how long will these things be so,and why has so much for the People changed?
Child,Creator knows like all children not always do we listen to the things we are told,and so sometimes the lessons we must learn are very hard.
Grandmother will we ever be able to return to the way that things should be,the way the ancestors lived when they were free?
Child,when our hearts turn from greed,back to the way of the ancestors,then and only then will the Circle be complete!
